Hear piano music, with and without electronics on this New Sounds program. Listen to the “Trilogy Sonata” – music from the so-called “portrait operas” by Philip Glass, reworked by Paul Barnes, and performed by pianist Jeremy Limb. The sonata is in three parts, containing music from “Einstein on the Beach,” music from "Akhnaten," (about the Egyptian pharaoh), and “Satyagraha,” (about Mahatma Gandhi.)
There’s also more piano music, with electronics, from Nico Muhly’s film score to “Kill Your Darlings” – a biographical film about the Beat Generation icon Allen Ginsberg’s early years. Also, hear music by Muhly’s frequent collaborator and muse (and Q2 Music host) Nadia Sirota, in a work by Shara Worden for viola with electronics. Plus, new music from German pianist and producer Nils Frahm, from his latest, “Spaces.”
